Three DynAssist Features You Might Not Know.
You already know your way around DynAssist—the fun starts when you use it like a power tool, not just a plug-in. Here are three advanced moves that cut busywork, keep your vocal chain clean, and make results more consistent from session to session.
1) Keep Breaths & Sibilance Out of Your Vocal Chain (with Stems)
Most chains overreact to breaths and “ess” energy—compressors pump, saturators fizz, reverbs smear. Keep the artifacts out of the chain, then blend them back in on your terms.
How to do it
- Duplicate your main vocal track twice.
- On copy #1, set DynAssist to Solo: Breaths and print/route a Breaths stem.
- On copy #2, set Solo: Sibilance and print/route a Sibilance stem.
- On the main track, use DynAssist to remove breaths and sibilance entirely.
- Mix the two stems back in subtly for natural air and intelligibility.
2) Flip Between Track Mode and Clip Mode for Context-Aware Control
When to use what
- Track Mode: One setting for the entire track—perfect for podcasts, steady VO, or a singer with consistent delivery.
- Clip Mode (Track mode off): Independent settings per clip—ideal for ADR, punch-ins, scene changes, or sections recorded with different mic distance.
Why it works
You avoid wrestling a global threshold across wildly different passages. Instead, you tune just the clips that need it—faster, cleaner, and with fewer compromises.
3) Auto-Load Your Favorite Starting Point with a “default” Preset
Save your brain cycles for the creative bits. If you have a set of thresholds and toggles you reach for every time, make DynAssist load them automatically.
How to do it
- Dial in your go-to starting settings.
- Click ‘Save as Default’ or save them as a preset named exactly: default.
- The next time you insert DynAssist, it will auto-load this preset.
Why it works
Consistency and speed. You land on the right ballpark instantly—session after session, machine after machine—then make tiny adjustments instead of rebuilding from scratch.
